WHAT IS THE FRISCO 2.1 PROJECT?

The objective of Frisco 2.1 project is implementation of a structural flood risk reduction measure – the modernization and upgrading of the Vonarje Dam, which is a key structural flood risk reduction element in the Sotla river basin. Cooperation program INTERREG V-A Slovenia-Croatia presents the main frame for the cross-border cooperation between Slovenia and Croatia in the financial perspective 2014-2020. The purpose of cross-border cooperation is to solve common challenges that we have jointly identified in the border area, while taking advantage of the untapped potential for growth and strengthening of the cooperation to achieve overall harmonious development of the European Union.

Frisco 2.1 was approved on 28th November 2017 at the 5th meeting of the Monitoring Committee under the 1st Priority Axis of the Cooperation Program – Integrated flood risk management in transboundary river basins. The project is implemented by partners from Slovenia and Croatia within the framework of Cross-border Cooperation Program INTERREG V-A Slovenia-Croatia for the period 2014-2020. Slovenian Water Agency (DRSV) is the leading partner responsible for the management and implementation of the project. It’s an organization within the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning and manages expert, administrative and development tasks in the field of water management in accordance with the regulations on governing waters at the state level. Project partners from the Republic of Croatia are Croatian Waters (HV).
